Strike a pose
By Damien Woolnough
The dress worn by the partner of Cowboys player Tom Dearden differs in a number of ways from Angelina Jolie’s infamous Versace dress from the 2012 Oscars but the pose struck by Tahlia Church is unmistakable.
Following the Oscars Jolie’s right leg received its own social media account. Church should be safe from scoring a hashtag considering the number of times this style has been revived, but sometimes it’s important to pay tribute to the classics.
Dearden takes out tackle of the year
More awards on the green carpet, here are the next set of winners:
- 2024 NRL tackle of the year – Tom Dearden (Cowboys)
- 2024 NRL try of the year – Xavier Coates (Storm)
First awards given out on the turf
We have our first lot of the awards tonight, and they’re taking place on the green carpet…these awards were part of the ceremonies last year, but they’re obviously trying to trim the formalities.
- 2024 NRLW tackle of the year – Abigail Roache (Knights)
- 2024 NRLW try of the year – Zali Fay (Eels)
- 2024 Ken Irvine medallist – Alofiana Khan-Pereira (Titans)
- 2024 NRLW top try-scorer – Julia Robinson (Broncos)
- 2024 NRLW top points scorer – Romy Teitzel (Broncos)

A memo to all Dally M dates: Be more like Panthers’ player Brian To’o.
When your wife, in this case the exuberant Moesha, picks a hot pink dress, show your support and wear a hot pink pocket handkerchief.
When the diamante trimmed gown has a train that isn’t quite keeping up with Sydney’s new Metro, step in and take control. Hot pink is not for everyone but this behaviour should be copied.
Trend alert
By Damien Woolnough
Only moments after Miranda Cross took to the red carpet in a whimsical dress with a blush bodice and lace skirt, Molly Hughes arrived on the arm of her husband, Melbourne Storm player and typo waiting to happen Jahrome, with a disco riff on the same theme.
Hughes’ strapped bodice dipped at the front like elegant baseball protective gear and instead of lace her Ingrid Olic bridal dress featured a beaded skirt that was just keeping up with her Mimco earrings in the shine stakes.
This budding trend is a welcome change from the standard strapless ballgown with Angelina Jolie skirt slit that we’ve become used to on the Dally M red carpet.
DCE thinks it’s ‘unlikely’ he’ll leave with an award tonight
Spice Girl

It’s definitely not Scary but somehow Miranda Cross, partner of Rabbitohs captain Cameron Murray, is managing to deliver Baby and Posh Spice at the same time in her blush strapless dress with ribbon details and a lace skirt on the red carpet.
Cross put Brownlow red carpet regular designer Nicky Velani to the test, only organising the dress three days before the ceremony. That was Sporty work at the sewing machine in the Velani studio.

Culture clash

Milan meets Polynesian pride in the outfits of former Warriors player Addin Fonua-Blake and his wife Ana Fonua-Blake.
Addin brought bling to the red carpet in a vibrant Versace shirt with matching loafers with a champagne satin tupenu, with Ana’s strapless gown featuring elements of Tongan tribal patterns.
It’s brat and demure at the same time. Well played.
