Badminton: Rexy announces four-year contract for coaches to limit changes – MASHAHER

PETALING JAYA: Coaches in the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) will be handed four year contracts for the first time in a bid to minimise changes in the national team.

National coaching director Rexy Mainaky does not want constant changes in his big preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

BAM are currently looking to hire at least two new coaches to lead the singles and women’s doubles squads and the new hires along with the other coaches will be handed contracts until 2028.

“All coaches will be given four-year contracts until 2028,” confirmed Rexy Mainaky on Friday (Oct 4).

“This is part of our planning leading towards the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.”

Previously, BAM only handed maximum two-year contracts with an option to renew for another two years. And due to the limited time given to coached and constant changes in the coaching and training structure by the BA of Malaysia in the past had in a way hampered the growth of players.

Rexy’s Key Performance Index (KPIs)

*Produce three or four men’s singles players capable of winning points in the 2026 Thomas Cup Finals

*Produce winners in men’s singles in World Tour Super 500 and above tournaments

*At least have one player or pair from men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles qualify for 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
