India and Pakistan will face off on Sunday in Dubai.

NEW DELHI: India and Pakistan have played each other only 15 times in Twenty20 Internationals so far, with their first game against each other in the inaugural Women’s T20 World Cup in 2009. India dominated the encounters winning 12 matches, while Pakistan have succeeded in three games.
The T20 World Cup encounters are no different, with India winning five of the seven matches played in the tournament so far.They will face each other for the eighth time on Sunday in the ongoing 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup.

The only difference this time is that India started their 2024 campaign with a heavy 58-run defeat against New Zealand in Dubai, whereas Pakistan made a winning start by beating Sri Lanka in their opening game by 31 runs.
India now face a do-or-die situation, needing to win all their remaining three games, that too with big margins. Pakistan will be upbeat after beating Asia Cup winners Sri Lanka, and will be looking to give India a tough time in their face-off.

Ahead of the much-awaited India vs Pakistan clash on Sunday, here’s a recap of their previous encounters at ICC Women’s T20 World Cup:
2009 T20 World Cup: India won by 5 wickets
The June 13 match in Taunton was the first game between the two sides in T20Is. Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first at the County Ground. But India bowlers, led by Priyanka Roy’s five-wicket haul, bundled out Pakistan for just 75 in 19.5 overs. Roy returned an impressive figures of 5 for 16 in 3.5 overs. India then chased down the small target in 17.4 overs to register a five-wicket win. Anjum Chopra, 37 not out off 52 balls, anchored the chase for India.

2010 T20 World Cup: India won by 9 wickets
India played Pakistan for the second time ever in the next T20 World Cup in the West Indies. Pakistan opted to bat first after winning the toss. They faced the Priyanka Roy-led Indian attack again, but this time they managed to post 104/6 in their 20 overs. Roy took three wickets for 19 runs in her 4 overs. But the total was a bit small for the Indian batting line-up as they chased down the target in just 16.4 overs with nine wickets in hand. Poonam Raut was named ‘Man-of-the-Match’ for her unbeaten 54 off 54 balls.
2012 T20 World Cup: Pakistan won by 1 run
The third India vs Pakistan encounter happened in Galle. For the third consecutive time, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. Pakistan posted a low 98/9 in 20 overs, with Sana Mir scoring 26 off 38 balls. This time the tide was turned, India failed to chase the small target and finished short by just one run in the end. Pakistani attack led by Nida Dar (3/12 in 4 overs) stopped India on 97/8 in 20 overs. Jhulan Goswami was India’s top-scorer with 21 off 24 balls.
2014 T20 World Cup: India won by 6 runs
India and Pakistan met in the Qualification play-offs in Sylhet after both missed out on the knockout stage. This time India opted to bat first, and posted 106/7 in 20 overs with Mithali Raj contributing 39 off 43 balls. Sania Khan was the pick of Pakistan bowlers, finishing with figures of 3 for 15 in 4 overs. India then restricted Pakistan to 100/9, to register a six-run victory. Soniya Dabir took 3 for 14 in her 4 overs.
2016 T20 World Cup: Pakistan won by 2 runs (DLS)
It was a horrific campaign for India, who were hosting the tournament for the first time. They faced Pakistan in Delhi. Pakistan sent India to bat first, and the hosts managed to post just 96/7 in their 20 overs. During the chase, Pakistan were 77/6 in 16 overs when rain stopped the play. Pakistan were two runs ahead of DLS par score, and with no further play possible they were declared the winner.
2018 T20 World Cup: India won by 7 wickets
Pakistan posted their highest T20 World Cup total of 133/7, at that time, in Providence after being sent in to bat first, riding on a quick fifty from Bismah Maroof (53 off 49 balls). But Mithali Raj played one of her best World Cup knocks, scoring 56 off 47, to take India home in 19 overs with seven wickets in hand. The match was also remembered for the ten penalty runs awarded to India after Pakistan’s cricketers ran onto the danger area of the pitch on two separate occasions.
2023 T20 World Cup: India won by 7 wickets
In the last edition of the tournament in South Africa, Pakistan posted their highest total against India in a T20 World Cup. Electing to bat, Bismah Maroof scored an unbeaten 68, off 55 balls, to lead Pakistan to 149 for 4 in Cape Town. But it turned out to be just short as India chased down the target with one over to spare. Jemimah Rodrigues scored a whirlwind 53 not out off just 28 balls to take India to 151/3 in 19 overs.
