Jeff McNeil to join Mets’ taxi squad, restart baseball activities on Sunday – MASHAHER

The Mets continue to get healthier and this time it’s second baseman Jeff McNeil who will resume baseball activities on Sunday while also joining the team’s taxi squad.

It’s certainly good news for New York who also recently announced that Kodai Senga will return from his injury and get the start for Game 1 against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday. However, it’s still too early to say whether McNeil can be ready for the NLCS, should the Mets get there.

McNeil has been out since Sept. 7 with a fractured right wrist that ended his regular season. With McNeil out, Jose Iglesias took over the starting job at second base and ran with it, finishing the season on a career-high 22-game hitting streak.

A spark since the moment he came up from the minors in the middle of the season, Iglesias has had a tremendous season with both the bat and the glove — not to mention the mic, as well.

But McNeil, a former batting champion, is no slouch and despite a tough first half of the season, the 32-year-old had been enjoying a rejuvenated second half in which he had a .923 OPS before getting hurt.

Overall, the super utility player slashed .238/.308/.384 with 26 doubles, 12 home runs and 44 RBI in 129 games.

The news comes a day after McNeil and his wife, Tatiana, welcomed their daughter, Serena Bee, into the world — the same day and just hours after the Mets advanced to the NLDS.
