Hurricane Milton forces Palm Beach County sports teams to reschedule, cancel games – MASHAHER


Hurricane Milton is already levying an impact on high school sports in Palm Beach County ahead of its projected impact on Florida’s west coast this week.

The Palm Beach County School District issued a statement Monday afternoon regarding the closure of public schools on Wednesday and Thursday of this week.

The National Hurricane Center is forecasting that Milton will reach Category 5 hurricane strength before weakening to a Category 3 storm ahead of a Wednesday landfall.

“All District-operated schools and offices will be closed Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10,” the District’s statement reads. “Extracurricular activities, after-care programs, sports, school meetings, and other on-campus events are also canceled Wednesday, October 9 and Thursday, October 10.

Additionally, while schools will remain open with classes as normal on Tuesday, all extracurricular activities, including all athletic events, were cancelled.

All schools, classes, and extracurricular activities are scheduled to return to normal on Friday at this time.
