Exactly a year after Assouline‘s “James Bond Destinations” became an instant bestseller, the luxury coffee table book brand has released a new 007-themed tome, this time delving into the the series’ most iconic sartorial moments.
“James Bond Style,” now available to pre-order online, explores the timeless fashion featured in all 25 James Bond films — from sharp suits and cult watches to glamorous ballgowns and seductive bathing suits. Even the most casual Bond fan will likely appreciate the firsthand details about the series’ most memorable moments, including Ursula Andress emerging from the waves in that famous white bikini and Halle Barry in that scene-stealing orange La Perla bathing suit in “Die Another Day.”
“I don’t know any other film series that has created such a definitive style for its main character — one that’s been captivating audiences for over sixty years,” Linda Hemming, the Oscar-winning costume designer, said in a statement.
Hemming, who has worked on five Bond films herself, wrote the introduction for the book, alongside a forward by Evening Standard editor-in-chief Dylan Jones. Their reporting includes interviews with dozens of designers, stylists, actors, editors and other Hollywood fixtures that were either involved with or directly inspired by the fashion in James Bond films.
“There has always bee something economical about the way James Bond dresses,” Jones’s forward begins. “Sharp, yes. Controlled, obviously. But never showy. Oh no. Unlike his famous martini, as a fashion plate, Bond has never looked shaken or stirred.”
