The rally organisers earlier this weekend posted a statement from the media office of Hizb ut-Tahrir in Australia to criticise the media and Zionist supporters.

In January Hizb ut-Tahrir was banned in Britain as a terrorist organisation after it expressed support for Hamas, itself a proscribed terrorist outfit.

It is also banned in Germany and Indonesia.

The statement said: “Hizb ut-Tahrir Australia would like to publicly state that the assumptions and lies spread by Zionist supporters regarding the organisers of the gathering are, at best, misinformed and, at worst, purposely malicious”.

“It is ironic that politicians continually call for social cohesion yet have no hesitation in accepting false narratives – spreading misinformation in the process and ultimately undermining the very “social cohesion” they advocate

“This latest propaganda campaign is simply pouring fuel to the flames of Islamophobia— not content with dehumanising the entire Palestinian population, but also targeting those gathering to reflect on their pain amidst an active genocide.“

Hizb ut-Tahrir was founded by a Palestinian scholar and judge Taqiuddin al-Nabhani in 1953 in Jerusalem as a Sunni Muslim organisation.

It promotes the concept of a global caliphate of Muslims governed by sharia law with an elected caliph. It says that all Muslims have a duty to work toward this outcome.
