The Swans are the latest exhibit for all those who believe that byes are bad for teams.
Having lost just one game the for the season, the Swans look like they’re struggling to recover from the week off after being completely jumped by Geelong.
The most remarkable part of Sydney’s insipid first quarter was that they actually had more inside 50s; 14 to Geelong’s 13. Yet, the Swans efficiency, or lack of it, inside 50 metres, was dreadful, pointing to Geelong’s pressure.
The Swans also had more overall clearances and centre clearances, but the Cats gave them no time for space, forcing turnovers. Geelong should have been further in front given the opportunities they created.
Let’s see if they can change the tune of this game this second quarter …
