Vladimir Putin promises North Korea trade mechanisms ‘not controlled by the West’ – MASHAHER

Russian President Vladimir Putin has promised to build trade and security systems with North Korea that are not controlled by the West.
Putin also pledged his unwavering support for North Korea in a letter published in Rodong Sinmun, the newspaper controlled by North Korea’s ruling Workers’ Party.
He said the two countries have developed good relations and partnerships over the past 70 years based on equality, mutual respect and trust.
The background: Putin thanked North Korea for supporting what Russia calls its ‘special military operation’ in Ukraine.

He also vowed support for North Korea’s efforts to defend its interests despite what he called “US pressure, blackmail and military threats”.

The key quote: “We will develop alternative mechanisms of trade and mutual settlements that are not controlled by the West, and jointly resist illegitimate unilateral restrictions.” — Russian President Vladimir Putin.
What else to know: Putin’s letter was published ahead of his planned two-day visit to North Korea, which will be the first time that he has visited the country in 24 years.
Putin’s foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov said Russia and North Korea may sign a partnership agreement during the visit that would include security issues.
Ushakov also said the visit will include one-on-one discussions between the two leaders, as well as a gala concert, state reception, honour guards, document signings, and a statement to the media.
