A member of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSF) paramilitary force died on Wednesday from an accidental shooting incident at the Ram Janmabhoomi temple complex in Ayodhya.
The deceased jawan, Shatrughan Vishwakarma, a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, was deployed for security duty at the holy site. According to officials, the incident occurred late at night due to mishandling of the service weapon.
Security personnel rushed Vishwakarma to a local hospital after the shooting. He was subsequently referred to a trauma center, where doctors declared him dead.
A post-mortem examination of the deceased jawan is currently underway, police said.
This is the second such incident at the Ram Janmabhoomi complex in recent months. In March, a Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) commando suffered injuries during an “accidental firing” while cleaning his weapon at his post.
