An 18-year-old man was arrested after an hours-long SWAT standoff at a north Lubbock apartment complex Friday afternoon following a reported aggravated assault that left one person seriously injured.

Shortly before 4 p.m., Lubbock police on scene confirmed that Eddie Casias was arrested on an aggravated assault charge following the standoff at the apartment complex in the 200 block of Indiana Avenue.

According to police, a call came in at 12:46 p.m. pertaining to Casias allegedly stabbing a coworker at a restaurant in the 3200 block of 4th Street.

The person suffered moderate injuries from the aggravated assault. Casias then fled the scene to hide in what is believed to be his residence at an apartment complex in the 200 block of Indiana Avenue, according to police.

“Witnesses observed Casias, armed with a knife, fleeing the area,” reads a statement from LPD.

Patrol officers responding to the initial call were able to find Casias barricaded in his residence, which initiated the SWAT callout.

According to LPD Lt. Brady Cross, negotiators were able to maintain communication with Casias throughout the incident. This eventually led to Casias peacefully walking out of the residence and being taken into custody at 3:16 p.m.

He was transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center and charged with aggravated assault.

Other details, including what prompted the violence, were not immediately clear as the investigation is ongoing.
