Kartik Aaryan recently made an appearance on the season finale of Netflix’s comedy talk show, The Great Indian Kapil Show, hosted by Kapil Sharma. Accompanied by his mother, Mala Tiwari, the episode was a treasure trove of amusing anecdotes and candid confessions, providing fans a glimpse into Kartik’s journey from a small-town boy to a Bollywood star.
Kartik Aaryan’s mother reveals he was crying when he signed Pyaar Ka Punchnama but she was upset: “8–10 saal mein thok peet ke engineering karwai ki degree toh le le”
One of the standout moments of the episode was when Mala Tiwari narrated an incident from Kartik’s school days. During his board year, Kartik was supposed to attend coaching classes, and Mala had strictly instructed the teacher to inform her if Kartik ever missed a class. One day, despite leaving home for his coaching class, Kartik never arrived. The next day, upon receiving the news of his absence from the teacher, a suspicious Mala decided to follow her son. To her shock and amusement, she found him at a video game parlour, engrossed in playing games. Recalling her reaction, she said, “Itna gussa aaya ki kya uthaa ke maar dun, phir maine sandal pehna tha, wahi utara.”
Mala Tiwari also revealed her initial disappointment when Kartik chose acting over a traditional career. She had always envisioned her son as a doctor or an engineer. Determined to see him through, she ensured he completed his engineering degree despite his burgeoning interest in acting. “Main chahti thi doctor engineer bane. 8 – 10 saal mein thok peet ke engineering karwai ki degree toh le le,” she shared.
A particularly humorous story involved Kartik preparing for an engineering exam at Mumbai’s DY Patil College. Mala recounted how she was explaining important topics to him before the exam. However, when Kartik returned after the exam, instead of discussing the paper, he excitedly told her, “Pyaar Ka Punchnama 2 ki script likh ke aaya hun!”
Mala revealed how Kartik used to fail his engineering exams, often blaming his health, while secretly attending auditions. His passion for acting was evident from a young age, but he never disclosed his ambitions to his parents until he secured his first role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama. “He had a craze, he was very passionate from childhood, but he never told us about it,” Mala explained. The moment Kartik finally broke the news to his mother, he was emotional. “He called me and he was crying. He said, ‘Mummy mujhe mil gaya (Mummy, I got it). I cracked the audition. Mujhe picture mil gayi (I got the film).’ He was crying and I was crying, so he asked me why I was crying. So, I said, ‘I am crying because you got the picture, I wanted you to study and become a doctor.’”
Meanwhile, Kartik Aaryan is currently seen in cinemas in Kabir Khan’s Chandu Champion. He will next star in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and a romance drama with Triptii Dimri.
