Carlton’s Jordan Boyd Tribunal challenge live blog, updates, forceful front-on contact suspension, video, latest news – MASHAHER

Carlton defender Jordan Boyd is challenging his one-match ban for an incident involving Tiger Rhyan Mansell at the AFL Tribunal. Live from 6:30pm AEST!

Mansell picked up the ball on the boundary line before Boyd came into the contest at pace, collecting the Tiger high and conceding a free kick in the process.

The forceful front-on contact incident was graded as careless conduct, medium impact and high contact.

Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes took to the SEN airwaves on Tuesday morning to voice his disbelief in the MRO’s ruling.

On the ruling, SEN’s Kane Cornes declared on Sportsday: “What Mansell did was so dangerous. He is the one that put himself in this vulnerable position.

“Carlton should absolutely challenge that.

“He (Mansell) ducks into this tackle. We all know from when we were kids, do not duck into a tackle. If you duck it’s play on.

“I can’t believe it was even a free kick. He has ducked, he’s contributed to the contact. What Boyd has done is reasonable in the circumstances because he’s thinking he’s going to hit him in the chest.

“Mansell ducks straight into it. Fortunately nothing did happen and he’s OK, but we’ve seen incidents like that in rugby league and AFL before where there’s serious damage done to the neck.

“Boyd should not be suspended for that. It should have been play on and if anything we need to suspend players who are ducking their head into situations like this.”

Boyd would miss Carlton’s mouth-watering clash with the GWS Giants at 7:30pm on Saturday night at ENGIE Stadium if his ban is not overturned at the Tribunal.
