In a recent interview with News18, Saswata Chatterjee revealed that Deepika Padukone was pregnant while filming the climax of Nag Ashwin’s ambitious project, Kalki 2898 AD. Playing a pregnant test subject named SU-M80 aka Sumathi, Deepika showcased remarkable dedication and professionalism. The physically challenging scene saw her co-star, Saswata Chatterjee, who portrays Commander Manas, dragging her character away by her hair in a dramatic tussle. Saswata shared, “Deepika is just ever smiling. There is a scene in the film where I drag her by the hair. It was part of the last leg of the shoot and was shot in Mumbai because Deepika was pregnant by then.”

Ranveer Singh’s presence and assurance on set
Ranveer Singh, Deepika’s husband, was present on set during the filming of the intense climax scene. Saswata described how he reassured Ranveer about the use of body doubles for more physically demanding shots. “There was a lot of physical tussle in the scene, so I told Ranveer, don’t worry, for more physically challenging scenes, there’s a body double. He was so polite and humble. He smiled and said, I know, Dada.” Ranveer’s supportive and understanding nature was evident as he calmly acknowledged the precautions taken for Deepika’s safety. Saswata fondly remembered Ranveer’s cheerful demeanor, describing him as someone who “can’t stand in one place” and noting his vibrant orange ensemble during their meeting.

The couple, who tied the knot in 2018, announced their pregnancy in February, much to the delight of their fans. Speculations about Deepika’s pregnancy began swirling after her appearance at the BAFTAs, which was soon confirmed by The Week.
