Nag Ashwin’s sci-fi extravaganza Kalki 2898 AD, starring Prabhas, has been a major box office success. The film continues to be a topic of discussion, with fans dissecting its plot, characters, and surprise cameos. In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ashwin opened up about various aspects of the film and participated in a fun rapid-fire round.

Unexpected Twists and Endearing Legends
When asked about the most unexpected element of Kalki 2898 AD, Ashwin revealed, “The ending.” He also shared a memorable compliment he received for the film, “I can’t tell you from whom, but it was a director who told me that I am losing interest in my film.”
Ashwin also expressed his admiration for the cameo appearances of veteran filmmakers Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) and S.S. Rajamouli, calling them his “favourite characters” in the film.
Living the Kalki Life and Potential Spin-offs
In a lighthearted moment, Ashwin confessed that if he could inhabit any character from Kalki 2898 AD for a day, it would be “Ajju because he is just cleaning his gun all the time.” When asked about the similarities between Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan, Ashwin aptly stated, “Both are timeless legends.”
Looking towards the future, Ashwin revealed that a spin-off based on Dulquer Salmaan’s character is the “easiest right now.” He also clarified Rana Daggubati’s involvement in the film, stating, “Rana Daggubati is fully a part of Kalki, it is just not in front of the screen.”
Box Office Strategies and Sequels
Ashwin acknowledged the power of star cameos in generating interest but stated that that the film’s content is ultimately the driving force behind box office success. “It definitely generates interest, but it still depends on the film. It can’t change the box office… I think it can just generate curiosity. If the film is good it works, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t (work),” he explained.
While Ashwin expressed his hope for a positive audience response to Kalki 2898 AD, he remained unsure about the return of any cameo appearances in a potential sequel.
Prabhas: Action Hero with a Comic Touch
In the rapid-fire round, Ashwin offered his perspective on Prabhas’ acting range, describing him as a “comedic action hero.” When faced with the choice between reliving the past or seeing the future, Ashwin opted for the former. He also revealed his preference for mind-reading over teleportation.
