Legendary music composer MM Keeravani, known for his soulful melodies in Telugu and Tamil cinema, recently spoke about his historic Oscar win for the song ‘Naatu Naatu’ from S.S. Rajamouli’s blockbuster film RRR.

Keeravani, who has enjoyed a prolific career spanning over three decades, expressed his humility regarding the Oscar win. In an interview with the Indian Express, he acknowledged that the global recognition might seem like it came late in his career, considering his acclaimed work on films like Baahubali. However, he went on to make a surprising revelation: “See, late or early, the global recognition has come to a song which is not my best. That much I can say.”
He further added, “But when the recognition has to come, it will come somehow, from any corner. But late? Sometimes you feel it’s late because your lifespan is fixated, that’s how it is termed as late or early, when your life span is not fixated, it comes when it has to come.”
MM Keeravani Speaks About The Power of Melody
Keeravani’s statement sparked curiosity about his creative process. He further elaborated on the importance of melody in music composition, especially for film soundtracks. “It’s giving respect to the melody,” he said. “Melody can be anything, it can be fast or slow. But the slower the melody, it will remain in your mind or heart for a long time.” This philosophy might explain his preference for composing music for South Indian films, which often place a strong emphasis on melody.
Speaking of the professional front, Keeravani’s next project is Ajay Devgn and Tabu’s upcoming film Auron Mein Kahan Dum Tha, marking his return to Hindi cinema after a long hiatus.
