Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal announced that customers will now be able to delete orders from their order history on the food delivery application. “Use it responsibly,” Goyal said as he responded to “Karan and many others” in his post on July 12.
Karan Singh, a Zomato customer, had complained in a post on December 2023 about not being able to delete order history that he had described as the “worst thing”. Responding to Karan’s post, Goyal introduced a new feature on Zomato that has triggered a discussion on social media.
“For Karan and many others – you can now delete orders from your order history on Zomato. Use it responsibly,” Goyal said, adding, “Sorry, this took us a bit of time to prioritise and build. This touched multiple systems and microservices. We are rolling it out to all customers as we speak.”

Last year, Karan said in his post that he was unable to place late night orders because his wife had “caught” him doing so by checking the order history on Zomato.
“@zomato this is sorry to say that I cannot order late night orders now because my wife has caught me ordering late night orders by checking order history. And the worst thing is I cannot delete order history. Bye bye zomato or make me delete order history as when I order things,” Karan had said in his post.
The comments section of the post is filled with opinions, suggestions and some hilarious responses with respect to Zomato’s new feature as well. Several users suggested that an “incognito mode” should be introduced on the application instead of “deleting order history”. This will enable the user to recall the food items, an order for which had been placed previously.
For instance, here’s what a user said: “You should soft delete the order history! If user needs to recall any order, you should only recall the food items that were ordered from which restaurant and not complete order history with date and delivery details!! May be some user might need this option too!”
In June, Deepinder Goyal also made headlines after he announced that thousands of Zomato delivery partners have been professionally trained to provide medical aid and help during critical roadside emergencies.
