The success press conference of Maharaj was held today at Mumbai’s YRF studios in the presence of its lead star cast – Junaid Khan, Sharvari, Shalini Pandey and Jaideep Ahlawat – along with director Siddharth P Malhotra. The director, in his opening speech, made some interesting comments about how Jaideep Ahlawat was cast in the role of the antagonist. Siddharth even said that the original choice for the villain’s role for him and producer Aditya Chopra was the late actor Irrfan Khan.

Siddharth P Malhotra revealed, “The only person we could think of for the role of Maharaj was Irrfan. God bless his soul. In our opinion, nobody could play this role but Irrfan Khan. It’s a lot of pressure for Jaideep sir. Yet, I keep telling him again and again that there’s only one actor in this universe who could match Irrfan’s level of performance. And that is Jaideep Ahlawat. He can do anything (smiles).”
Siddharth continued praising Jaideep Ahlawat saying, “He’s one of the best actors we have today in the country, undoubtedly. Convincing him for Maharaj was a tough task because he declined the role at first. He was unsure how he would play it. We had to do a narration with him to explain to him what our take on Maharaj was. We were very grateful that sir agreed and came on board. He’s rightfully getting all the love that he gets for every film.”
Recently, Jaideep Ahlawat revealed how he lost weight and appeared fit for his role in Maharaj. Siddharth P Malhotra, at the press conference, opened up that Jaideep’s entry shot was the last scene shot by the makers. By then, the actor had moved on to another project. Yet, when he was asked to report to the sets of Maharaj for the said scene, he asked for three months to get back in shape. The audience at the press conference applauded on learning that Jaideep worked so hard just for one scene, even though director Siddharth P Malhotra had suggested showing his ripped body through VFX.
