‘Bosch’ Renee Ballard Spinoff Casts Courtney Taylor – MASHAHER

The “Bosch” spinoff about cold case detective Renee Ballard has added Courtney Taylor to its cast, Variety has learned.

Taylor will star alongside previously announced series lead Maggie Q in the untitled series, which was picked up to series in November 2023. Like “Bosch,” the series will be based on the work of author Michael Connelly. The show will follow Ballard as she is tasked with running the LAPD’s cold case unit. Per the official logline, “When she uncovers a larger conspiracy during her investigations, she’ll lean on the assistance of her retired ally, Harry Bosch, to navigate the dangers that threaten both her unit and her life.”

Taylor will appear in the series regular role of Samira Parker. The official character description states Parker is:

“A wary, impulsive, and tough woman with a burning desire for justice. Growing up, most everyone Samira knew shared a healthy distrust of the police, but her grandfather, whom Samira looked up to as a kid, was on the force and believed in using his police badge to protect and aid his community. However, being a cop now is a different kind of challenge than it was back then. Five years after leaving the police force, Samira’s former mentor, Renee Ballard, convinces her to return to the LAPD’s Cold Case Unit, where she works to right the wrongs of the past and bring peace to families and victims, and in the process, Samira slowly restores her own sense of justice.”

Taylor currently appears in the Emmy-winning ABC comedy series “Abbott Elementary” as Erika, a friend of Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson). Taylor has also made appearances in shows like “Insecure,” “Killing It,” “Neon,” “The Company You Keep,” and “Send Help.”

She is repped by CAA, Anonymous Content, and Del Shaw Moonves.

The Ballard series is executive produced by Jet Wilkinson, Connelly, Michael Alaimo, and Kendall Sherwood. Alaimo and Sherwood will also serve as showrunners. Henrik Bastin and Melissa Aouate will executive produce for Fabel Entertainment with Jasmine Russ as co-executive producer. Jamie Boscardin Martin and Trey Batchelor will also serve as co-executive producers. Theresa Snider will co-executive produce for Hieronymus Pictures.

“Bosch” has proven to be the iron horse of Amazon’s streaming ambitions. The original series ran for seven seasons on Prime Video until 2021, making it the longest-running Amazon scripted series to date. The spinoff series “Bosch: Legacy,” which saw Titus Welliver return as Harry Bosch, debuted on Amazon Freevee in 2022.
