GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Levi Comstock’s viral video on TikTok, YouTube and other social media platforms led thousands to question this mystery behind his find.
As the public continues to ask for answers, Mesa County Sheriff’s Office decided to let us in on what they know so far.
MSCO Operations Division Chief Art Smith says at this point, not much has really been uncovered yet.
Sixteen items have been found to be specific, including a headband, nylons and a fake fingernail.
Smith tells WesternSlopeNow the next step will be finding someone who can date the decay of the shoes.
Two ponds, the upper and lower, are the main points of the investigation. Both of which have since been drained. A cadaver dog has roamed the area and didn’t find anything.
The lower pond continues to dry out, but as the water drained, no new evidence turned up.
While the theory hasn’t been proven, there is one rather odd possibility…there’s an entire class of internet fetishism that is women in high heels in mud…and every pair of shoes found here were women’s high heels. MSCO hasn’t confirmed or ruled out the theory, though they do say it is a “plausible explanation.”
So, while investigators on the ground continue to piece together this mystery, internet sleuths are coming up with their own unique theories about what happened in these remote desert ponds.
