Bersatu to contest under Perikatan flag in Sabah elections, says Kiandee – MASHAHER

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) remains firm on its decision to contest under a single Perikatan Nasional flag in the coming Sabah state elections.

Bersatu chief for Sabah, Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee, said the decision was made during previous supreme council meetings and is final.

He mentioned that coalition member SAPP, led by Datuk Yong Teck Lee, can review their position within Perikatan Nasional if they disagree.

“I have said this, and if Yong is still a member of Perikatan, if he is not happy, then he can review his position,” Kiandee stated during a press conference after a Bersatu conference here on Sunday (July 14).

Kiandee suggested that perhaps Yong had been out of the supreme council meetings for too long, as he had not attended for quite some time, and thus was unaware of the decisions and ongoing matters within Perikatan.

He also clarified that the matter of working with other parties outside Perikatan in the coming state polls does not arise at the moment.

“This is not the first time that we are moving under the Perikatan flag. Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor also contested under the Perikatan flag before this,” he said.

“I also went solo in the last election and still won,” Kiandee added.

When asked if he is ready to contest the Lamag seat held by Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin, the Beluran MP said there were many other suitable candidates for the job and that he has not decided yet.

There were talks that he could be the best candidate from Bersatu to take on the seat against Bung.
