FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – Fresno State is welcoming a new Bulldog, this time, in the form of a new Fresno State Police Chief.
The Fresno Police Department announced on social media that former Fresno Police Captain Anthony Martinez will step up as the new Fresno State, relieving Interim Chief of Police, Jennifer Curwick.
Curwick has been filling in for the campus department for the past five years following the passing of Chief David W. Huerta, who passed away in 2019, after Huerta served the university for 13 years.
‘Keep things stable’: Fresno’s interim police chief on taking over
Chief Martinez started his law enforcement career with the Selma Police Department in July 1990. He joined the Fresno Police Department six years later and has experience in patrol, internal affairs, multi-agency gang enforcement consortium as metro commander, and most recently, community relations commander in the support division.
“Thank you Fresno, it’s been a pleasure,” Chief Martinez said as he was signing off for his last day of duty.
“The department has brought me much opportunity, much experience, and more than anything else the opportunity to work with a lot of great people over the years. Keep my troops safe, Semper Fidelis, and go dogs.”
