Rise of Red’ and ‘Love Island USA’ Lead Luminate Ratings – MASHAHER


The two most-watched streaming originals in the U.S. during the week of July 12-18 were Peacock’s “Love Island USA” Season 6 and Disney+’s “Descendants: The Rise of Red,” topping Luminate’s TV and film charts, respectively, with 1.1 billion minutes watched.

This was the second week at No. 1 for “Love Island.” Season 6 viewership improved slightly from last week’s 919 million minutes watched after the release of Episodes 28 through 33. “The Rise of Red” debuted on the the first day of this viewing window, giving it a full week to accrue its total.

In their first full weeks of availability on Netflix, Season 3 of “Vikings: Valhalla” was second-most-watched (1 billion minutes) and docuseries “Receiver” took third place (886.5 million minutes). “The Boys” Season 4 took fourth place with 577.8 million minutes watched in the first full week of availability of its penultimate episode and the first few hours of availability of its finale.

Peacock had a second title on the chart this week besides “Love Island”: “Those About to Die,” which took fifth place with 460.5 million minutes watched. It was followed by two more Netflix titles: Season 2 of “Another Self,” debuting with 439 million minutes watched, and “Desperate Lies” in its second week with 426.9 million minutes. The bottom of the chart was rounded out by “The Bear,” “Presumed Innocent” and “Sausage Party: Foodtopia.”

Most notable on the movies chart after “Descendants” was “Hillbilly Elegy,” the 2020 Netflix movie based on JD Vance’s memoir of the same name that saw a bump in viewership after the announcement of Vance as former president Donald Trump’s running mate. The film took sixth place with 287.8 million minutes watched.

“Tyler Perry’s Divorce in the Black” took second place in its second week on the chart, notching 987.1 million minutes watched. “The Champion” debuted close behind it with 949.5 million minutes watched. Other debuts included “Blame the Game” and “My Spy: The Eternal City,” while “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F,” “A Family Affair” and “Space Cadet” maintained their chart streaks.
