MERRICK, N.Y. (PIX11) — A person is accused of causing a scene at a Planet Fitness on Long Island over the weekend, causing two officers to be taken to the hospital, according to the Nassau County Police Department.
After police got a call of a disturbance at the gym in Merrick around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, Getho Brevette, 27, left the gym when officers arrived and got into a vehicle accident. Police said Brevette returned to Planet Fitness and threw a liquid on the approaching officers.
Police said Brevette snatched the body camera from one of the officers, breaking it on the ground, and then tried to take the cop’s gun around 8 p.m. Brevette “was violent and became combative while resisting arrest,” according to officials.
The officers and Brevette were taken to local hospitals to be treated for injuries, officials said.
Brevette was charged with the following:
-
Two counts of assault in the second degree
-
Grand larceny in the fourth degree
-
Robbery in the second degree
-
Criminal mischief in the third degree
-
Resisting arrest
-
Obstructing governmental administration in the second degree
-
Sexual abuse third degree
-
Forcible touching
-
Leaving the scene of an auto accident
Police told PIX11 News that Brevette was released from police custody earlier in the day after being accused of a robbery at the First Baptist Church of Westbury on Saturday.
