Arjun Rampal divorced Mehr Jesia after nearly two decades of marriage. He recently discussed his divorce and why he and his girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades do not want to marry after being together for many years. Arjun stated that in order to have a successful marriage, one must “wait it out” before committing.
Arjun Rampal regrets marrying too young; says, “It’s very difficult; it is not easy on anyone”
Speaking on The Ranveer Show, Arjun said that he married Mehr too soon. Arjun said, “I got married when I was 24, and I think it is too early; you’re too young, and there’s a lot to learn and experience. You have to become mature. Guys mature far slower than women do. It’s a proven fact that we are idiots. If you want to be successful in it (marriage), wait it out.”
The actor stated that while he has seen men marry their childhood sweethearts and their relationships succeed, he believes they are simply “miracles.”
Arjun spoke on his divorce with Mehr, with whom he had two daughters, Mahikaa and Myra, he said, “It’s very difficult; it is not easy on anyone, and it’s the most difficult on children.” The actor also mentioned that it might feel like freedom in the beginning, but it eventually starts to feel “uneasy and lonely. You start to miss home.”
He continued, “I had come from a broken home when I was young, and for me to not have succeeded in marriage was something which I really had to look back upon and see how did this go wrong and how did I not see… then I realised why it went wrong and what were the things, and I take responsibility for it.”
However, Arjun stated that he and his fiancée Gabriella, their two boys, his children from his previous marriage, and former wife Mehr are all “very close and loving towards each other.”
“We will always have each other’s back. You don’t have to live under the same roof or be bound or separated by a piece of paper,” Arjun said.
The actor also feels that God granted him a “second chance in love” with Gabriella. The couple has been together since 2018 but has not exchanged wedding vows.
Arjun continued, “It’s not me, it’s not her, but marriage is just a piece of paper. We are already married, and there is no doubt about that in my mind. But sometimes what that piece of paper can do is change you. You’re just legally bound in a way, but it could change your attitude towards each other. In both our minds, we are married to each other,” Arjun said, before concluding that they are “not going against any institution” by not marrying.
On the work front, Arjun Rampal was last seen in the film Crakk. He is currently shooting his next film alongside Sanjay Dutt and Ranveer Singh.
