No one facing charges in Wednesday deadly shooting on Bokeelia Pier, Lee sheriff says – MASHAHER

A death investigation on a private pier on Bokeelia Island concluded with no charges, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office has announced.

Lee County sheriff’s deputies shortly after 3 p.m. Wednesday responded to the 8400 block of Main Street, on Bokeelia.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found a pickup on a foot-traffic fishing pier, according to an incident report. Inside, they found a man who had died from apparent gunshot wounds.

The incident report is heavily redacted, but indicates officials collected the firearm that was used during the incident.

Throughout the investigation, the sheriff’s office said on X, formerly known as Twitter, detectives learned the decedent approached a person on scene and displayed a firearm. The decedent then returned to his pickup and proceeded to drive the vehicle down the pier, with bystanders present.

While driving down the pier, a bystander fired multiple rounds at the vehicle, the sheriff’s office said. The vehicle became stuck on a gate halfway down the pier.

Shortly after 11:40 a.m. Friday, the sheriff’s office said they determined the death investigation at the Bokeelia Pier is not suspicious and no person involved is facing charges.

Authorities have not released the identity of the pickup driver nor the shooter.
