Due to their anticipated popularity, people visiting the zoo or traveling around Balboa Park are advised to use public transportation. Traffic is expected to increase in the area between Thursday and Aug. 11 and then on weekends throughout the rest of the month.

Zoo visitors using rideshare services are encouraged to use the main entrance as the address for pick up and drop off.

The zoo also offers a free shuttle to and from the Inspiration Point lot, where parking is also free. Additionally, the zoo has a webpage offering ways to help plan your visit including a map of the different exhibits, information for guests with disabilities and more.

The San Diego Metropolitan Transit System offers convenient options including bus lanes that run along Park Boulevard. Rapid 215 and Route 7 provide direct access to the zoo. MTS commuters under 18 can also take advantage of the Youth Opportunity Pass which allows them to ride for free.

For pedestrians and cyclists or people using mobility devices, there are bike lanes and high-visibility crosswalks to utilize along Park Boulevard.

Whether you will be visiting the zoo, Balboa Park or just passing through the area, the City of San Diego advises you to consider the different options to avoid gridlock.
