A man in custody in connection to the Aug. 11 shooting in Louisville’s Old Highlands neighborhood that left two dead pleaded not guilty to charges Friday and is being held on a $500,000 bond.
Louisville Metro Police arrested Richie Williams, 37, on Thursday, charging him with murder and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon in connection to the death of 29-year-old Montay Wade.
Williams pled not guilty in his arraignment Friday in Jefferson District Court, according to records obtained by The Courier Journal, and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. on Aug. 26.
The arrest was made by LMPD’s Homicide and Fugitive Units after two were shot at the 900 block of Baxter Avenue around 1:45 a.m. Sunday, LMPD spokesperson John Bradley said. One man, later identified as 20-year-old Michael Bachelor Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man, later identified as Wade, was taken by first responders to University of Louisville Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Williams remains in custody at the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections and Bachelor Jr.’s case remains under investigation separately.
