BIJNOR: In a bizarre incident, a Dhanbad-bound Express train split into two, leaving its last eight coaches stranded as it approached Chakrajmal village just before Seohara railway station in Bijnor around 4am on Sunday. The stranded coaches eventually came to a stop near Raipur village, leaving passengers confused and anxious as to what had happened.
The Kisan Express was en route from Firozpur to Dhanbad (Jharkhand) with passengers, including around 150 candidates appearing for the UP police constable recruitment exam in Moradabad. Railway officials blamed “a technical glitch” for the decoupling of the coaches.
Aditya Sharma, who was travelling for the exam, said, “We felt a jolt and realised our coach had been left behind. There was chaos, especially since many of us were worried about reaching our centres on time. However, govt buses were arranged within an hour to take us to our destinations.” Sachin Kumar, who was also aboard the train, added, “The detached coaches rolled ahead for nearly 2km before coming to a halt. Thankfully, no one was hurt.”
The engine of the express train (13308) and 14 coaches attached to it reached Seohara around 5.20am. By 7.20am, the train had been reconnected and resumed its journey.
