A semitruck accident closed Interstate 10 in Central El Paso during a rainy morning traffic rush, the Texas Department of Transportation reported.
A trailer was on its side blocking the westbound lanes of I-10 near Chelsea Street, according to the TxDOT highway cameras. The wreck occurred before 4 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, and the highway remained closed for about six hours.
The freeway was reopened about 10:30 a.m. after tow trucks were able to remove the jackknifed tractor-trailer, TxDOT and El Paso police said.

During the closure, westbound traffic is being detoured off the freeway and eastbound traffic was reduced to one lane, TxDOT posted on X. Drivers were asked to plan for extra travel time and take an alternate route.
About 8:30 a.m., TxDOT highway cameras showed lines of heavy freeway traffic as far east as Viscount Boulevard.

Scattered rain and thunderstorms are forecast to continue in the El Paso-Juárez-Las Cruces region on Tuesday with the best chances for rain in the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
Thunderstorms could brings the potential for flash flooding, gusty winds and small hail. Temperatures are forecast to be slightly cooler than the recent string of 100-degree days. El Paso is forecast to reach a high of 95 degrees on Tuesday, according to the NWS El Paso.
