Footage from a helicopter provided by the navy depicted a high-speed boat chase southwest of the city of Manzanillo.
Officials said they discovered 6.2 tons (5.6 tonnes) of a substance, presumably cocaine, in three distinct motorboats and detained 15 people in the largest drug seizure of the current administration.
In a second operation, the navy seized 1.8 tons (1.6 tonnes) of drugs near the coastal city of Lazaro Cardenas in the Michoacan state.
