Earlier this month we started something fun here at THN Florida.
With the 2024-25 NHL season slowly drawing closer, we’re starting to think ahead to how the upcoming campaign might go.
Our friends over at THN Vancouver came up with a fun idea that we decided to piggyback on.

They put together a story titled The Most Absurd Predictions for the Canucks’ 2024-2025 Season and went month-by-month, predicting some pretty awesomely bonkers scenarios.
This takes bold predictions to the next level.
In Part I of THN Florida’s look at a totally bonkers Panthers 2024-25 season, we got into the first half of the regular season.
Now, we finish off the schedule and get ready for the playoffs.
Here we go.
January: Panthers host surprise Stadium Series game, ice melts halfway through
In the NHL’s latest attempt at keeping things fresh, the league decided they were going to spring a surprise Stadium Series game on us, waiting until Opening Night to announce the Panthers would be hosting a game against Tampa Bay at loanDepot park. It’s just what we’ve all been hoping for, and unfortunately, it would go as bad as some feared. Thanks to an unseasonable warm front, once the roof of the ballpark was opened for the puck drop, the ice quality quickly deteriorated.
February: Florida’s goaltenders enter the zone, allow zero goals all month
Paul Maurice, being the genius that he is, found a way to fix Florida’s early-season defensive and overly physical issues. That combined with Sergei Bobrovsky and Spencer Knight going on respective heaters leads to simultaneous shutout streaks that each eclipse double digits. It’s historic and mind boggling, with every goal post and broken stick viewed as the one that got away.
March: Bill Zito shocks hockey world, trades for Alex Ovechkin
Just when it looked like the Panthers were going to roll into the playoffs with their regular season squad intact, Zito pulls a rabbit the size of a Range Rover out of his hat and brings Alex Ovechkin home to the team that originally drafted him, or at least tried to.
April: Panthers close out regular season selling out every home game, infuriating fans in Canada
If you hadn’t heard, sports fans sure love a winner in South Florida. Over the past few seasons, the Panthers have proven to be a team that is going to win. A lot. And then after doing a lot of winning, they win some more during the playoffs. Local fans have taken notice and for the first time since 1996, the Panthers are the hottest ticket in town.
Stay tuned for Part III to see how things play out for the Cats during the playoffs.
