College football Week 1 scores, updates: Notre Dame vs. Texas A&M – MASHAHER

It’s the Saturday of Labor Day weekend, which means the full chaos of college football has truly arrived.

No. 1 Georgia got things started with an absolute show of force, blasting No. 14 Clemson 34-3 in their season opener. Heisman favorite Carson Beck was on point throughout the marquee showdown, throwing for 278 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

No. 19 Miami handled in-state rival Florida in the afternoon window as new QB Cam Ward threw for 385 yards and three touchdowns in his debut.

Elsewhere, No. 4 Texas and No. 8 Penn State both took care of business. Arch Manning tallied the first touchdowns of his career in cleanup duty as the Longhorns rolled Colorado State and PSU QB Drew Allar looked very comfortable in the Nittany Lions’ new offense in a win over West Virginia.

Notre Dame doesn’t shy away from tough openers, and this is no exception. Saturday night is QB Riley Leonard’s first game in a Notre Dame uniform after transferring to Duke, but he’ll be playing behind a revamped offensive line that lost three starters from 2023. First-year Texas A&M coach Mike Elko brings a defense that has lots of new faces but is still plenty talented. And QB Connor Weigman returns as the Aggies’ starting quarterback with the goal of staying healthy for the whole season.

Live141 updates

  • Final: Oregon 24, Idaho 14

Idaho is picked off in its final possession and the No. 3 Ducks hang on in a game where they were favored by 49.5 points. Ugly win is still a win!

  • Notre Dame has the ball into Texas A&M territory after an incredible 20-yard grab by Beaux Collins on the sideline. Under 4 minutes to play as ND is driving to ta

  • It looks like disaster will be averted in Eugene as well. Idaho punted it away and Oregon has the ball with a 10-point lead approaching the 2-minute timeout.

  • Final: Michigan 30, Fresno State 10

The final score doesn’t exactly tell the story. The late pick-six by Will Johnson was essentially a 14-point swing in a close game late in the fourth quarter.

  • Pick-6 for Michigan!

It’s over in Ann Arbor. Fresno State had a great drive going and was inside the 10 before Michigan’s Will Johnson jumped a route and returned the ball 86 yards for a touchdown to seal it.

  • Oregon extends the lead

Tez Johnson snags a clutch TD catch to give the Ducks a 24-14 lead with 5:36 to go.

  • Touchdown Texas A&M!

The Aggies FINALLY put together a full drive and Le’Veon Moss punches it in from the 1-yard line after a PI call in the end zone set them up. We’re all tied up with 11:49 to play in College Station.

  • Touchdown Michigan

The Wolverines have their safety net as Davis Warren finds Colston Loveland for an 18-yard touchdown.

  • We have a catch of the year candidate in Week 1 and it’s on an interception. Just watch this pick from Robert Morris’ Rob Carter Jr.

  • Touchdown Idaho!

The Vandals are NOT going away! Another TD on a Jack Layne 4-yard run further cuts into Oregon’s lead.

  • Fresno State closes gap on Michigan

Fresno’s first TD of the game makes it a possession game. Michigan leads 16-10, early 4th.

Mikey Keene passes to Raylen Sharpe for the 19-yard score.

  • Oregon 17, Idaho 7

Oregon adds a bit of breathing room with a short field goal. Still early in the 4th.

  • Touchdown Notre Dame!

Jadarian Price breaks free for a 47-yard run to the house!

The first touchdown of the game with scored at the 6:50 mark of the 3rd quarter.

  • Michigan’s player of the game today? Kicker Dominic Zvada.

He’s made field goals from 55, 53 and 45 yards.

Michigan leads Fresno State 16-3 early in the 4th.

  • Back in action at College Station, Notre Dame goes for it on 4th down at its own 33 yard line (!) and converts. But a few plays later, the Irish FAIL to convert on another 4th down try at midfield.

After the play was upheld by review, Texas A&M takes over at the 50. Right call?

  • Oregon on upset watch

And just like that the lead is cut in half! Touchdown Vandals!

    Oregon 14, Idaho 7 (Oregon is a 49.5-point favorite)

  • Oregon is still leading 14-0 over Idaho, but its offense is having the damndest time moving the ball against an FCS team.

  • Michigan tacks on a field goal to extend its lead to 13-3 over Fresno State, but it’s been a bit of a struggle offensively for the Wolverines and QB Davis Warren, who started today over Alex Orji.

Oddly enough, Orji has Michigan’s only TD pass on his only attempt of the day. He’s mostly been used as a RB otherwise.

  • UNLV is having its way with Houston, which entered as a slight favorite.

UNLV leads 24-0 late in the 3rd.

  • Tied at the half

It didn’t go anywhere for Notre Dame. The defenses have held strong as neither team has found the end zone so far.
