(WHTM) – A survivor of the Nickel Mines Amish school shooting has died 18 years after being taken hostage alongside her classmates.
According to LNP, Rosanna King was severely wounded during the October 2, 2006, mass shooting at West Nickel Mines School when a gunman took 10 girls hostage, killing five of them before taking his own life.
According to her obituary, King died on September 3 at her home in Paradise, Lancaster County.
King, who was 6-years-old at the time, had been shot in the head and the attack left her unable to talk and requiring a tube to be fed. She was dependent on others for personal care and mobility.
A year afterward, her family said in a statement she was able to recognize family members, smiled a lot and had limited physical movement. They said in 2007 that “the hardest part has been to see her suffer.”
A viewing will be held at her home on West Oak Road, and funeral services are scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, September 6. She will be buried in the Bart Cemetery.
