132 cars impounded during 3-day ghost vehicle crackdown on NYC bridges: MTA – MASHAHER


NEW YORK (PIX11) – Over 100 cars were impounded during three operations focusing on ghost vehicles and toll evaders on New York City bridges at the end of August, according to the MTA.

Officers impounded 68 vehicles for similar violations in August before the operations, officials said. The MTA has held 38 operations so far, which resulted in over 2,000 impounded cars, 463 arrests and 19,000 summonses issued.

The first operation, held on the Bronx–Whitestone Bridge on Aug. 19, led to nine arrests, 68 impounded cars and 652 summonses, according to the MTA. The second operation, which took place on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Aug. 24, resulted in three arrests, 26 impounded cars and 354 summonses.

The final operation, which happened on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge on Aug. 30, saw six arrests, 38 impounded cars and 531 summonses.

The NYPD, Port Authority Police, state police, the Sheriff’s Office, the DMV and TLC police all took part in the operations, according to the MTA.
