Auburn High School was placed on lockdown Friday as several fights broke out among students.
A witness reported seeing police tackle students who were involved and place them under arrest shortly before 1 p.m. Friday.
A Rockford Public Schools spokeswoman in an email to the Rockford Register Star did not say if any injuries were reported.
“Auburn High School was on lockdown due to students fighting in the building,” she wrote. “Police responded and will remain on site to maintain control. School will resume as normal. Staff and student safety is always our number one concern.”
A Rockford Police Department spokeswoman said that more information about injuries and the police response could be released when it becomes available.
The district did not immediately respond to questions regarding how many students were involved, whether any weapons were used, if any students were disciplined, how long the school was on lock down and whether the fights were related to fights that took place last week at the Auburn-Harlem football game.
