The crew of a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Hurricane Hunters aircraft captured shaky footage as they flew into the eyewall of Hurricane Helene on Thursday, September 26, and were rocked by the storm’s powerful winds.

The NOAA said the mission “gathered crucial data” about the storm shortly before it made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region.

The Hurricane Hunters crews slice through the eyewalls of hurricanes using two Lockheed WP-3D Orion four-engine turboprop aircraft, nicknamed “Kermit” (N42RF) and “Miss Piggy” (N43RF), to monitor changes in wind and pressure, according to the NOAA’s website.
