PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 22-year-old Portland State University student died on campus on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.
Campus Police and a medical examiner responded to Parking Structure 1 along Broadway Street in southwest Portland at approximately 1:25 p.m. on Oct. 2. Authorities say they are investigating the student’s death as a suicide. No foul play is suspected at this time.
“We’re deeply saddened by this news and acknowledge witnessing death can be a traumatic experience,” PSU stated in a campus email sent Thursday afternoon. “Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time. Out of respect for the student and their family, we ask that our community respects their privacy at this time, especially when sharing news on social media.”

Portland State students affected by the tragedy are encouraged to seek grief counseling available at the university’s Center for Student Health and Counseling, located at 1880 6th Ave.
People suffering from mental health issues, emotional distress or addiction concerns are advised to call 988 for the National Mental Health Crisis Hotline.
