Two people have been shot by NSW police in western Sydney after they allegedly drove a stolen car at officers.
One man is in a critical condition and the other is stable after the shooting on Friday afternoon on Wentworthville’s Lane Street. Both were taken to Westmead Hospital suffering from gunshot wounds, one ambulance with a police escort and the second without.
The police officers, who were responding to reports of a stolen car, weren’t physically injured in the incident.
“When police entered an underground car park of a unit block, the stolen vehicle was allegedly driven at them,” police said in a statement.
Officers “discharged their firearms”, police said, injuring the two men inside.
One of the men was a resident of the unit block at which the shooting took place.
NSW Ambulance said six ambulances and a helicopter attended the scene at 12.40pm.
One resident on the suburban street told the Herald they heard gunshots followed by “lots of commotion”.
