The Pittsburgh Penguins announced they have assign eight players to their AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Forwards Emil Bemstrom, Jonathan Gruden, Samuel Poulin, and Joona Koppanen, defensemen Nate Clurman, and Filip Kral as well as goaltenders Taylor Gauthier and Filip Larsson were sent down.
Poulin was the leading scorer of this group last season, notching 31 points in 41 AHL games.
Gruden, Poulin, and Koppanen were regulars for WBS last season, while Gauthier appeared in four games after a strong season with Pittsburgh’s ECHL affiliate Wheeling Nailers.
Clurman spent last season with the AHL’ Colorado Eagles, Kral played with the Lahti Pelicans in Liiga, Bemstrom split time between the Penguins and AHL’s Cleveland Monsters. Larson spent his time with Leksands IF in the SHL last season, he looks to play his first AHL games since the 2019-20 season.
There is a good chance Penguins fans will see both Bemstrom and Poulin play NHL games this season.
The WBS Penguins open their season on Oct. 12 against the Charlotte Checkers.
