BHOPAL/MYSURU/MANGALURU: Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised INDIA bloc on Sunday for advocating the elimination of nation’s nuclear deterrence when a strong India is needed amidst escalating conflicts around the world, alluding to the grim situation in West Asia.
“We should have nuclear weapons to protect our country. Those saying otherwise, how will they protect India?” he said during an election rally held in Pipariya town of Madhya Pradesh.”Who can give you a strong India?” he asked, and the crowd responded: “Modi, Modi.”
Later in the evening, Modi addressed a rally in Mysuru, home turf of Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah, calling Congress “the sultan of the tukde-tukde gang” and accusing INDIA bloc of harbouring a dangerous intent to “divide, break, and weaken” the country.
The PM tore into the opposition alliance over its constituent CPM calling for nuclear disarmament in its manifesto. “They cannot protect the country,” Modi said, without naming the party. “In today’s world, doesn’t our country need nuclear weapons? In the manifestoes of INDI alliance partners, a number of dangerous promises were made,” he said.
Referring to the global situation, Modi said: “There is an atmosphere of fear and uncertainty. Wars are being fought, and there is chaos in the world. In such a situation, we need a strong India. BJP has been trying to strengthen the country, but can the INDI alliance of unstable, weak, and corrupt leaders give you a strong India?” he asked.
Modi accused Congress of corruption and the opposition alliance of aiming to undermine Sanatan Dharma values and Hinduism.
Hitting out at Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, the PM said: “The shahzada of Congress’s royal family is threatening that there would be fire all over the country if Modi returns to office. They said the same thing in 2014 and 2019, during the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, and the scrapping of Article 370. But was there any fire anywhere? It’s not fire outside, but the fire in their hearts that is burning them. “
Referring to BJP’s Sankalp Patra (manifesto) , Modi said: “BJP will work to make the annadata (farmer) into urjadata (producer of energy) and urvarak data (producer of fertilisers) as well.”
In Mysuru, Modi shared the stage with JD(S) supremo HD Deve Gowda and his son HD Kumaraswamy for the first time since forming an alliance with the party.
Former CM BS Yediyurappa and the titular head of Mysuru royal family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyarwere also present.
