“He is always so patient and understanding. I always feel like he is the earth to my fire, he doesn’t put it out, but guides me to be grounded.”

An equally elated Soon Huat said: “I became her mixed doubles partner on Oct 24 (2016) and many years later, through many challenges and injuries, we are still here, competing in major world badminton tournaments together, as a partner, on and off court.”

The duo, were once ranked eighth in the world, and did the country proud by winning the Swiss Open this year. They were also the Swiss Open runners-up in 2022 and reached the semi-finals of the Korean Masters, Singapore Open and Denmark Open in 2022.

The duo came close but missed out on qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games and now, that they are married, will they keep playing?

“Yes of course, we will continue to play,” said Shevon.

In fact, they will be getting ready to give a good show in the Malaysian Masters from May 21-26 in Bukit Jalil.
