A man attempted to shoot Pastor Glenn Germany, claiming divine instruction during a service at Jesus’ Dwelling Place Church in North Braddock, Pennsylvania.
The gunman, identified as Bernard J. Polite, 26, entered the church just after 1 p.m.
Before aiming the gun at the pastor, Bernard J. Polite smiled and made eye contact with him, as recounted by Pastor Glenn Germany in an interview with WTAE-TV, Pittsburgh.
However, divine intervention seemed to be at play as the gun failed to fire.
A quick-thinking congregant tackled Polite, and together with Pastor Germany, they disarmed and subdued him until state troopers arrived. The chaotic scene unfolded while the service was livestreamed. Authorities credited the congregant’s swift action for preventing a tragedy.
