Sydney and Carlton meet in an epic top eight clash from the SCG with a valuable four points on the line.

The Swans (8-1, 151.9%) will be aiming to extend their lead at the top of the ladder, having made just one change, with Matt Roberts (managed) replaced by Braeden Campbell.

The Blues (6-3, 109%) have meanwhile made several changes including Jack Martin, Adam Cerra and Matt Cotrell missing through injury, while Zac Williams returns.

MATCH UPDATES

There were no late changes, with Braeden Campbell (Sydney Swans) and Jack Carroll (Carlton) named the starting subs.

Mitch McGovern got the Blues off to a good start in enemy territory with a long-range goal from outside 50m.

It appeared James Jordon, who’d played negating roles in recent weeks, was assigned with a run with task on Sam Walsh.

The Blues’ hot start continued including Harry McKay launching a set shot from outside 50m to get the visitors out to an early 19-point lead and stun the SCG crowd.

McKay had another set shot from point blank range but couldn’t convert the much easier opportunity compared to his previous one.

Matt Owies would make good on Carlton’s next chance though, capitalising on a fast-paced inside 50 and running into goal.

“What a start. A hot, hot start for the Blues,” Channel 7 caller James Brayshaw noted.

Tigers great Matthew Richardson added:“Their defence is under siege, they’re getting smacked in the contested footy and groundballs … no control for the Swans.”

The only downside for Michael Voss’ side in the opening term was Jacob Weitering coming from the ground with a what appeared to be a corky to his right quad.

It was raining goals late in the first term as Sydney finally hit the scoreboard through Will Hayward before Sam Walsh responded. James Jordon and Tom Papley added two more to reduce Carlton’s lead to 12 points.
